{ Cool Find } Free artist market research & product funding!

Ok, I'm definitely *psyched* about this new web find! It's called Kickstarter, and if you're an aspiring artist of any kind, then you'll be just as thrilled over this site as I am! Quite simply, Kickstarter is a "new way to fund creative projects". There are already a million ideas flowing through my head...!

Browsing through the site, I'm impressed by how many amazing projects are listed. It's a cool, functional resource for allocating back-up funding. This is a non-conventional, but very easy way to test market your idea on a community of peers. If your project reaches 100% funding then you receive the monetary funds needed to bring your idea to life! This is by no means a draw-back to this site - it just means that the money raised will only go to ideas that are supported by a large community of like-mind individuals who are just as enthused about your project as you are!

AND, if you support someone else's project, you're entitled to receive some very cool kickback! Whatever final product is produced from the money raised will be distributed in terms set by the artist to the community of supporters! It's all based on your contribution amount and the details of what you'll receive is listed on the project's information page. Tres chic!

Check out some of the items listed  under "graphic design" (below), and then feel free to scour the rest of the site! It's filled with some pretty cool ideas and talented artists! And who knows, I may be on there soon enough... *wink*

{ Free Craft Workshops for Kids! } Lowes Build & Grow

Ok, if you know anything about me by now (shame on you if you don't), then you'll know that I love any activity that's FREE! And this is a pretty cool one. Read on. Read on...

I found out about these workshops through my dad. Well, kind of. He brought this magnet home and it remained plastered against our refrigerator for months before I actually took the time to read past the "Lowes" logo (shame on ME, I know)!

Ok, so here are the deets (eh hem, as in "details" of course). You register your "littles" online at http://lowesbuildandgrow.com for the workshop(s) you'd like to take them to, print out the registration form & then show up at your local Lowes on the scheduled date & time. That's it! Well, don't forget your child of course (it CAN happen)...

Once you're there, each child receives a free apron, goggles and a wood kit they can build. And the fun continues after they're done too. For each completed project, your child(ren) are given a certificate & a custom project badge which can be attached to their apron as a sign of their previous accomplishments (I was instructed that hot glue works best). Honestly, like I really need any additional incentive past the "free" part to be excited! Everything is quite literally a bonus!

There are upcoming workshops until the end of December! I suggest signing up directly in-store so that you can block off your space. And you can choose to go at 10am, 12noon or 2pm. The next two upcoming workshops (pictured above) are:

>> Santa Sleigh with Reindeer - November 19, 2011 and

>> Train (Part 1) - December 3, 2011

Cost is FREE, so don't forget to sign up!

CraftGawker: Best iPhone Inspiration & DIY Art Discovery App

Considering I was up until about 530am playing on this iPhone app, deftly titled "craftgawker", I just couldn't consciously keep this find to myself!

The app interface is beautiful in its simplicity! Immediately upon opening the app, you're taken into a gallery of products. You can scroll down & choose any item to be taken to its 'details' page, which showcases a larger photo & a mini description. Optionally, you can also perform a general key word search - and believe  me, after scrolling through all the cool projects, you'll want to narrow things down!

Once you pinpoint your hearts desire { *swoon* } you'll be able to see the original source page. And this is possibly the best part, because almost every item I've found has been attached to a DIY tutorial! YAY!

> Visit this link to download app.

> Don't have an iPhone or another compatible phone? Not to worry! You can also view the fabulous arts & craft inspirations online at www.craftgawker.com

Some of my personal favorite finds include:
- Baby's Sushi Costume
- Leather iPhone Case
- Paper Feathers
- Handmade Leather Journals
- Repurposed Newspaper Bags
- Paper Art Necklace
- Oversized Wall Mural

Simply stated... I'm in love with Sugar Pop Boutique Jewelry!

How amazing is high quality .925 sterling silver jewelry?! I just want to give a quick little (shameless) plug to SugarPopBoutique.com. What I love most about this designer boutique theme is the fact that all of the marketing materials are crisp & clean.

The colors are simple and understated, but yet still give a nice "pop" against the similar undertones of the jewelry. How did that happen...? I'm sure it's the typography & the smart placement of background colors! And don't get me started on the main website tumblr template. It's super simple, but it works. The jewelry is showcased like it was intended. Great  use of white space!

Did You Know? Sugar Pop Boutique is designed / maintained (& owned) by none other than yours truly! Just scandalous! <3

Free iPhone Wallpapers!

As part of my new website "revamp", I decided to create something just for fun! And what better way to curve some of that "design appetite" than to create something fabulous & funky with Photoshop?!

Since I just can't put my iPhone down (unless I'm on my laptop, of course), I decided to create a new line of iPhone wallpapers. Currently there are about 10 designs, with even funkier designs coming soon! Let's just say it's going to be an ongoing project. I can't help but create! :D

You can view the free designs on my Flickr Photostream, under the "iPhone Wallpapers" Set.

Enter to WIN this fun & easy-to-use digital scrapbooking software suite!

The wonderful scrapbookers over at MyMemories.com were gracious enough to let me have first dibs on trying out their wonderful scrapbooking software recently. I cannot rave enough about this software suite! You can create all sorts of beautiful digital scrapbook layouts. I've tried similar suites before but the learning curve was exhausting.

With MyMemories, the process is actually simple, fast & fun - definitely the perfect outlet for showcasing some of my LG Design Studio photography! They have some pretty neat freebie template packs you can download direct from their website (with immediate download access) - it took me a second to figure out where they could be accessed in the program, but it was worth the digging!

Upon opening the program, you have the option of creating an album from the designer templates (LOVE! Super easy), creating your own template or browsing additional content online. Recent projects are also easy to open & continue editing. And as far as the interface goes, it's very well executed. All of my possible scrapbooking customization options are laid out very well - and are self explanatory.

I'm also really digging the "export to JPEG" option, which lets you export files from projects in one large batch, but will save each page as an individual JPEG file. Basically, you can print just one page at a time if you'd like, or post one file / email it easily with a few clicks.

AND, since I love the software SO much, MyMemories.com is offering one of the 'Design Lookout Blog' readers the opportunity to WIN the incredible MyMemories software suite!

TO ENTER: Please visit MyMemories.com and choose your favorite digital paper pack(s) or layout(s), then leave a comment below by telling me which ones you chose. It's that easy! The winner will be chosen on August 31, 2011. That's only 12 days away, so ENTER NOW!

AND, for those of you frothing at the mouth to try this incredible software out, you can use Coupon Code STMMMS28438 to receive a $10 discount off the purchase of the My Memories Suite Scrapbook software and a $10 coupon for the MyMemories.com store - a $20 total value exclusively for 'Design Lookout Blog' & 'LG Design & Clipart Studio' members / fans!
